Rusty water in air compressor tank.
Not a whole lot but it the color that worries me.
Is it normal to.
An air compressor works by squeezing air into a smaller volume under high pressure.
I seen a 75 years old air compressor tank rust thru pin holes around the mounting feet where it was welded.
Just a guess here as i have never tried it on a compressor tank but i use evapo rust to remove rust from my tools.
The bottom is a bit thicker rust but the reddish stain where water sat on the bottom was pretty small so they must have drained it regularly in this florida humidity.
When a compressor draws in air the air is compressed to about 12 times normal atmospheric pressure.
As the pressure increases water vapor condenses back into a liquid.
It works quit well and it is reusable.
In general this shouldn t pose a problem but over time it can cause rust to develop inside the tank.
You would need to fill the tank and leave it over night then rinse it out and dry it.
